On November 7, 2015, the Sydney chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology graciously hosted Dr. John Martin, wildlife officer at the heritage-listed Royal Botanic Gardens and Domain Trust and Centennial Parklands. Reflecting his deep-rooted passion for working in the field, Dr. Martin guided the captivated audience on a trek through the swamps of the Centennial Parklands, stopping periodically to discuss key findings of his ongoing work in the conservation of the Gray-headed Flying-fox (Pteropus policephalus), and Black Flying-fox (Pteropus alecto).

October Conservation Café in Wollongong – Megan Rowlatt & Adam Woods

IMG_2865Our first external Conservation Café in Wollongong was a huge success! We had a great group of people, the location was amazing, the weather was perfect and our guests were just great!

On August 1, 2015, the Sydney chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology welcomed Prof Emma Johnston as guest speaker at their monthly Conservation Café series. As Director of the Sydney Harbour Research Program at the Sydney Institute of Marine Science and as an Australian Research Fellow at the University of New South Wales, Prof Johnston has been involved in a multitude of key aspects in marine conservation and research in both academia and the broader community.

This April we welcomed Dr Daniel Ramp to our Conservation Café. Dan is the Director of the Centre for Compassionate Conservation at UTS.

In February 2015 we launched a new monthly event to celebrate and learn about the incredible work being done by our region’s conservation professionals and volunteers over a cup of coffee and a chat: Conservation Café. It is a very casual meeting space for our members and other people who are interested in conservation and would like to meet like-minded people.
