The Australian Wetlands, Rivers and Landscapes Centre (AWRLC) through the School of Biological Earth and Environmental Sciences (BEES), in collaboration with Taronga Conservation Society Australia, is seeking to appoint a conservation biologist, specialising in endocrinology, to undertake research, teaching and postgraduate supervision within one of Australia’s most dynamic research environments.

The appointee will be expected to integrate a research program in endocrinology focusing on species, populations and ecosystems, and will be based between UNSW and Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo. There will be teaching responsibilities in Sydney and in Dubbo.

At our first board member meeting after officially being registered as an SCB chapter we could not pass up the opportunity of having a group photo taken in front of the Sydney Opera House. Front row from left to right: Claire Daniel (Events Manager), Monique van Sluys (Taronga Conservation Society), Monica Awasthy (Community Liaison), Sam Dawson (Vice President), Jane Chimungeni-Brassington (Conservation Policy); back row from left to right: Kate Lee (Secretary), Oliver Manlik (President) and Sandra Vogel (Treasurer). Our Communications Manager, Samira Schadler, who could not attend the meeting, is shown in the inset (left hand corner).

Welcome to the website of the newly formed Sydney Chapter of the Society for Conservation Biology (SCB). We’re really excited about setting up this new Chapter and are currently in the process of getting started with a few projects and finding likeminded people who are interested in all sort of conservation issues.

Have a look around and tell us what you think!
