October Conservation Café in Wollongong – Megan Rowlatt & Adam Woods

IMG_2865Our first external Conservation Café in Wollongong was a huge success! We had a great group of people, the location was amazing, the weather was perfect and our guests were just great!

Megan Rowlatt is one of the founders of the Illawarra Intrepid Landcare group. She told us about her projects and how she manages to involve young people in landcare. There are absolutely great projects going on and anyone can join (even if you don’t live in the Illawarra region). And they even have youth leadership programs! If you’re interested, please have a look at their website: Illawarra Intrepid Landcare.

Adam Woods is the regional manager at Conservation Volunteers in Wollongong. He organises regular beach cleanups all over the Illawarra region. On the way to the café (about 15 minutes walk) he decided to pick up any rubbish that was on his way. Have a look at the photos to see what he found… It was absolutely shocking! Adam told us about his general experiences with beach cleanups, how he recruits new people for those cleanups and reminded us of how important it is to try and make your home plastic-free in order to contribute your little part to fight pollution.

Thanks so much to Steph for organising this café in Wollongong and for the yummy, home-made cookies! A huge thank you also goes to the Rhythmic Picnic people for providing the space and for being so enthusiastic about the café. It was such a success that we will definitely organise more external cafés and maybe we will even have two Conservation Cafés running, one in Sydney and one in Wollongong. So thanks everyone for all your support!
